You are responsible for travel to and from Ely, MN and subsequent campground and entry point near Ely. Carpooling may be an option. The trip ends the afternoon we exit the BWCA. I would recommend an extra night in Ely after your trip to have dinner, visit the quaint shops, find your souvenirs, or support the International Wolf Center or Bear Center.
This is a physically demanding journey so some level of physical conditioning is recommended. There is an optional online fitness plan available for this journey. Please contact if interested. You will be traveling over rock, roots, and rough terrain at some points while carrying gear or canoes. Sturdy footwear while portaging is a must and will be explained in packing list. Some days we paddle 2-6 hours, some days we may stay at camp to layover, rest or because of weather. Portages (carrying canoe and gear over land) may be 1/8 to 1/2 mile in length depending on the route. In late August in the BWCA, we usually see fair weather, temps of 40-80 degrees and minimal bugs. Deposit is non-refundable with balance due 8 weeks before the trip unless other arrangements have been made. Please see FAQ for cancellation policy.
