BWCA Yoga in the North Woods 2020


Your guide, Melissa will lead you on a journey into the wilderness during this yoga inspired adventure.  Immerse yourself in nature, surrounded by earth, water and sky in addition to other beautiful souls on this journey with you. Close your eyes and listen to the breeze whisper through the pines. So quiet, so peaceful, so serene.  

Yoga masters practiced in nature and Minnesota Yogini’s practice near sparkling blue waters.  Come unfold in the North Woods.   You will travel into the most remote portions of our beautiful state, the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness to experience yoga practice, meditation, earth energy, and the yoga-nature connection. A love of nature and a wild spirit make the perfect combination for this adventurous yoga retreat.

August 30-September 3, 2020 / 5 Days, 4 Nights

Accommodations are Backcountry Style Tent Camping, Shared Space

Cost: $875  Deposit of $150 to Reserve your spot. $725 Due 8 weeks prior

Cost includes all meals, guiding, group equipment, permits, yoga and meditation instruction while on trail. You will be provided with a packing list and additional information upon confirmation.

~Find Ease~

Details: Following is a tentative itinerary.  The woods are unpredictable so find ease in flexibility.  Subject to change with weather, group energy, location, etc.

Sunday August 30th: Meet in Ely, MN at 2pm Kawishiwi Ranger Station.  Travel to forest campground and set up camp.  Practice portaging, paddling, and gear packing along with a safety briefing and review of wilderness travel ethics using best practices.  Dinner and Rest.

Monday: Early wake, short yoga practice and travel to BWCA entry point.  Portage and paddle in to the BWCA.  Floating lunch and campsite exploration.  We’ll find a suitable spot for our first night camp and set up.  Dinner, meditation.

Tuesday: Wake, break camp. Yoga, Breakfast, Paddle, Raft Lunch, Paddle to next site, set up camp. Dinner, Explore, Yoga Philosophy or Asana

Wednesday: Layover Day. Brunch, Yoga, Explore, Hammock, Hike, Pick Berries, Fish, Journal, Meditate.

Thursday: Wake, short yoga practice and pack camp.  Paddle and portage back to entry point parking lot and farewells @2pm.

Find Your Tribe

You are responsible for travel to and from Ely, MN and subsequent campground and entry point near Ely.  Carpooling may be an option.  The trip ends the afternoon we exit the BWCA. I would recommend an extra night in Ely after your trip to have dinner, visit the quaint shops, find your souvenirs, or support the International Wolf Center or Bear Center.

This is a physically demanding journey so some level of physical conditioning is recommended. There is an optional online fitness plan available for this journey. Please contact if interested. You will be traveling over rock, roots, and rough terrain at some points while carrying gear or canoes. Sturdy footwear while portaging is a must and will be explained in packing list. Some days we paddle 2-6 hours, some days we may stay at camp to layover, rest or because of weather. Portages (carrying canoe and gear over land) may be 1/8 to 1/2 mile in length depending on the route. In late August in the BWCA, we usually see fair weather, temps of 40-80 degrees and minimal bugs.  Deposit is non-refundable with balance due 8 weeks before the trip unless other arrangements have been made.
